Kappe meets Cartouche at the Schuhfabrik Culture Summer!

A jazz highlight at the Schuhfabrik Kultursommer is Kappe meets Cartouch. This extraordinary concert will take place on Saturday, August 16 from 8.00 pm.

Cartouche presents timeless jazz compositions in an extraordinary line-up. Together with trumpeter Christian Kappe and bassist André Nendza, guitarist Philipp van Endert has found a very intimate and chamber-musical sound that sounds like a bird's flight over the resources of the jazz heritage in order to set off for new shores. Philipp van Endert's guitar playing and his arrangements once again underline his sensitive feel for arcs of tension.

Since his return from the USA, guitarist Philipp van Endert has established himself as a unique and unmistakable voice in the contemporary jazz scene. He has played numerous tours and recordings in America and Europe and has accepted invitations to perform at many international festivals - including the renowned Montreux Jazz Festival, The Hague Jazz, Jazz Sur Son/Toulouse, Ankara Jazz Festival, Salzburger Jazzherbst, Leverkusener Jazztage and many more. His energetic and at the same time lyrical guitar playing is documented on over 40 CD releases and has brought him together with jazz greats such as Mike Stern, Danny Gottlieb, Lajos Dudas, Jarek Smietana, Karl Berger, Gerd Dudek, Kenny Wheeler, Adrian Mears, Rick Margitza, Philip Catherine and many others. Nominated for the German Record Award 2006 in the jazz category with the production Philipp van Endert Trio - KHILEBOR (JazzSick Records), winner of the Steven D. Holland Memorial Scholarship, the Berklee Guitar Department Achievement Award.

Christian Kappe plays trumpet and flugelhorn in the bands of Trilok Gurtu, Barbara Dennerlein and Jasper van't Hof, among others. He studied on scholarship at the Berklee College of Music, USA and the conservatories in The Hague / Rotterdam. With the “BuJazzO”/ Peter Herbolzheimer and his own groups, Kappe has completed numerous tours in Europe, North and South America and Africa and can be heard on more than 60 CDs. Kappe teaches at the universities of Oldenburg and Münster and directed UniJAZZity, the Westphalian youth jazz orchestra (WDR Jazz Prize winner 2016) until 2022.

The audience can expect an extraordinary musical experience.

Doors open at 7:30 pm. The concert will take place on the open-air stage towards the parking lot. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. In case of bad weather, the concert will take place in the hall.

The "Schuhfabrik Culture Summer!" is kindly supported by Volksbank Ahlen, Sparkasse Münsterland Ost and the Stadtwerke and takes place within the framework of the project "Third Places - Houses for Culture and Meeting in Rural Areas" funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
